Kathleen Ryan explores the possibilities of materials like stone, iron, concrete and clay. Drawing resonance from ancient Roman mythology, 1980's broadcasting technology and the flora of Southern California, her work is insistent in its physicality yet ultimately tied to the intangible weight of time and memory. Solo exhibitions of her work have been mounted at MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge, MA; Cc Foundation, Shanghai; Arsenal, New York; Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien, Vienna; François Ghebaly, Los Angeles; and Josh Lilley, London. Her work is in the collections of the Cc Foundation, Shanghai; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; the Hammer, Los Angeles and the Arsenal Contemporary, Montréal. She holds an MFA degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. She lives and works in New York.
